The highlight of the last month was definitely getting to construct one of the parade beds for the Knaresborough Bed Race.

This year’s theme was Children’s TV and Film Characters.

The team we build the bed for decided on a ghostbusters theme, and it was up to us to construct ECTO-1!!

The main carcass of the car is chipboard, with a bendable MDF bonnet and rear.

All of the additional components were made using sauna spares from our own stock!

We managed to utilise sandtimers, hygrometers, sauna bench fronts and even some old electrical bits we found squirelled away in the back of a cupboard.

We had a lot of fun deciding how to manufacture some of the more interesting bits, and we are really pleased with the results.

Congratulations to First Scriven Scouts (team 65) whose helpers worked to win ‘Best Dressed Bed’ for the second year running. The design was based on the popular cartoon Despicable Me with spaceship and accompanying minions. **

The Knaresborough Bed Race is a massively popular day out, with 90 teams competing. Whilst the parade itself is just for fun (you tell the teams that!), the racers prepare long and hard for the actual race.

Harrogate Harriers won the 49th Great Knaresborough Bed Race just ahead of Planet Steel, Harrogate Racers, The Wacky Racers and Piccadilly Men. Ripon runners Girls won the women’s event. Fishers Til We Die were the fastest new team; The Minions claimed the fastest mixed team award; Harrogate Young Life were the fastest junior team and Heels on Wheels were the quickest junior female team. First scriven Scouts had the Best Dressed Bed and Tewit Youth band were the Most Entertaining Team.**

Congratulations to the team for their sub 20 minute time of 19:47.

On such a warm day, the river crossing was no doubt a welcome relief!
